Accokeek Compressor Station Special Exception Hearing Continued
September 12, 2017, 7:00pm - September 12, 2017, 10:30pm
The hearing will be in the Commissioners Meeting Room. *Please plan to testify!* This is very important. You will have approximately 3 minutes to speak after the lawyers are finished with their presentations. Sign up as soon as you arrive.
Day One (Tuesday, July 10) went extremely well, but also very late. Staff gave a short report and then Dominion began their presentation. They got through 5 of their 6 witnesses. Our lawyer cross-examined them to great effect. We couldn't have been happier.
A lot of people came -- thank you!! A lot of trade union folks showed up also, which is par for the course at such hearings. Half a dozen told us that their boss had ordered them to show up. One who lives close to the project said he actually opposes it, but would have been fined $250 if he hadn't been there.
While a great many people signed up to speak, all of their testimony will be heard on day two since we still have to get through Dominion's last witness and then all of ours.
We're looking forward to seeing you in September!
Dominion needs a zoning Special Exception to proceed with their plan to clear cut nearly 14 acres along Barry's Hill/New Marshall Hall Rd. and build a dangerous fracked gas compressor station there. (Right on the border of Prince George's County where Accokeek and Bryans Road meet by the beautiful flooding swamp.)
A hearing before the Charles County Board of Appeals is scheduled so that members of the public can weigh in on the issue. Please come out and oppose the compressor station.
This is a critical step in stopping Dominion's Eastern Market Access Project, which would in turn stop the Mattawoman Energy Plant in Brandywine, and possibly disrupt the supply of gas to the under-construction Cove Point export terminal.

Please invite folks who I may have missed!
“It stinks,” Cheryl Butler of Accokeek, Md. told the AFRO. “This is the time of the year when a lot of people are having cookouts or a lot of things they are throwing out. In some neighborhoods, the trash is just piling up. This is crazy and unsanitary.” ...
In Prince George’s County, trash has become a leading issue in the upcoming elections. First it was Maryland State Sen. C. Anthony Muse, running for County Executive, who promised to restore two-day trash pickup, if elected. Shortly thereafter Angela Alsobrooks followed suit with the same promise. E...
